Project 1: South Campus Rooftop Garden

South Campus Rooftop Garden INDIVIDUAL PROJECT - SPRING 2016

From an underused rooftop space to a dynamic research garden and classroom. 

​

Note: My first project completed in the University of Maryland MLA program. 

​

Process:

Visited the site

Interviewed the site coordinator

Researched rooftop garden implementation and best practices

Brainstormed several designs (of my own creation)

Improved upon the design I felt best met the needs of the site (hand drawn on trace paper)

Created renderings of the finalized design using computer software

Presented my design to several stakeholders 

​

Programs Used: Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

Project 2: Children's "Secret" Garden

Center for Young Children (CYC): Secret Garden INDIVIDUAL PROJECT - SPRING 2016

From a simple garden patch to a miniature realm of imagination. 

​

Note: 

The directors of the CYC are seeking to implement this garden using ideas from this and several other submissions by my colleagues. 

​

Process:

Visited the site

Interviewed the site coordinator as well as groups of children attending the childrens school.

Researched child psychology - specifically how children learn and play

Brainstormed several designs (of my own creation)

Improved upon the design I felt best met the needs of the site (hand drawn on trace paper)

Created renderings of the finalized design using computer software

Presented my design to several stakeholders

Programs Used: Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

Project 3: Sustainability Park at UMD

Sustainability Park at the University of Maryland GROUP PROJECT

From an open lawn with a few trees to a park for showcasing sustainability research. 

​

Note: Though a group project (with excellent, talented colleagues), I alone created the map above which served as the main visual for the presentation of the concept.  

​

Process:

Visited the site

Interviewed the professor tied with the existing Leafhouse on the site.

Researched sustainability parks (or different elements that could contribute to one)

Brainstormed several designs (of our own creation)

Improved upon the design we felt best met the needs of the site, including the most useful and creative features synthesized from all of our original designs (hand drawn on trace paper)

Created renderings of the finalized design using computer software (mostly adobe Illustrator)

Presented our design to several stakeholders
